Painting is an exploration of the absurd. I aim to create carelessly, a destroy-create-destroy process. Inspired by abstract action painting and textile sensibilities, I begin my work with unstructured chaos. There is a freedom, a type of play, in this process in which I feel free to explore material without preoccupation with a final product. Painting becomes a means to explore the absurd and myself. After this mess making process, I begin to engage more carefully. I repair the canvas, and cover them in diagrams. These diagrams are representative of my own place and being in time. They exist as a record for my own states of being, informed by my own life and experiences. Color becomes very important in this process. The beginnings of a painting are vibrant, then pushed back with layers of paint. Blue, white and black become symbols of identity. Painting becomes a means to make sense of everything.
